15 Aug Our Reprofit baby daughter – joy at last!
Thank you, Reprofit! We’re delighted to introduce our beautiful new baby, Ida. She was born on 15 July 2013 at the Queens’s Medical Centre in Nottingham. After our long and painful battle with infertility in the UK, it was the Reprofit clinic in the Czech Republic that helped us conceive our precious daughter.
There are so many people we want to thank. Our superb consultants at Reprofit, Štěpán Machač and Marek Koudelka, the brilliant andrologists and embryologists at the clinic (whose skilful work can be overlooked) and, of course, our wonderful egg donor. This amazing 20-year-old produced 13 beautiful embryos for us. When you owe such a debt of gratitude to one person, it‘s hard to articulate how you feel. All we can say is, we feel privileged to have our baby and to be the recipients of such a precious gift.
We also want to thank our UK consultant, Dr. Margaret Ramsay, at QMC in Nottingham. She looked after us with great care before and during the pregnancy and we were thrilled that she was able to deliver our baby personally. She saw us in our darkest and happiest moments (you can read about our IVF journey here). Ida‘s birth, by caesarean section, at 39 weeks, was the greatest moment of our marriage.
To people having, or considering, IVF treatment, we say this: don‘t give up. The technology is improving, year in, year out. Every month sees a new IVF advance. The process can be overwhelming, daunting, stressful, infuriating, exhilarating and isolating. But don‘t lose hope; it’s all you have. We kept going for as long as we could bear it. Ida is our reward. Your reward could be out there too.
Reprofit came to our rescue. Our IVF struggle was a long and gruelling one. But this magnificent clinic showed us the miracle of donor-egg treatment and made it happen for us. We shall always be thankful.
